This is FUCKED!!! hahahhah. People going nuts at an airport waiting for FNM to land. Unreal.
Took a nice relaxing 2 and a half hour drive in the pouring rain to Toronto last night. It was well worth it once the first tallboy was cracked. Cranked Thin Lizzy and Scorpions. Played darts. Went to Teds. Met up with Ryan and Meghan who I have not seen in a while, and it was fuckin awesome. Good times.
Whoever is around, and wants to rock out, and crank chunes, and drink brews, hit up Columbian Daves and Axls. We are gonna paint the town brown tonight my friends!!!! CANNOT WAIT!!!
Me and my buddies were going to get drunk
Were going to go out on the town
Well be checking it out, slipping it in
And stepping out of line
You know everybody likes to get a little crazy
In their own particular way
But my buddies and I we go over the top
And were going over again today
Well be having a good time
Passing the by-line
Having a good time
You know its a rock and roll pastime

So as I thumb through some of this years Reading Festival videos of Faith No More, I found a lot of people writing about how they were thankful that Kings of Leon were on at the same time as FNM, so the douche bags wouldn't get in their way. More and more wrote how Kings should take a lesson from FNM on how to engage an audience, and maybe they wouldnt have gotten boo's. "NO WAY!" I say out loud. Could these media darlings, one of the worst bands I ever herd, finally reached their 15th minute? According to the British, it would seem so. God I gotta move there.

"There are some of you out there who are sick of Kings of Leon. Well we're f---ing sick of Kings of Leon. We do this everyday," Caleb said at one stage.
"So for all those who don't give a f--- about us, I understand. But we've worked hard to be here. We're the god damn Kings of Leon, so f--- you."
After 'Use Somebody' -- the band's most stratospheric attempt at an arms-aloft anthem, and one perfect for a Reading finale -- the set closed with the classic display of rock and roll anger; Caleb trashing his guitar centre-stage and trooping off with his comrades with a middle finger pointed to the crowd. Reading, we fear, won't be seeing this family gathering for some time.

A montage of the greatest TV character that was ever created.
So I went to see The Horrors show at Lees with Anthony last wednsday. The best part was this band opening up called "POLARIS PRICKS" which was pretty much clear it was the band FUCKED UP. I bought their album after hearing all the hype, and once I realized they were on the mighty Matador, I figure they must be the real deal. The album is pretty fuckin awesome, but it was seeing them live that really got me hooked. I could tell it was a more laid back show for Fucked Up, but that did not stop Pink Eyes from running through a sea of goth kids, and running along the tables of Lees. Nothing put a smile on my face like seeing a 300 pound hairy half naked dude walk through a group of stuck up Toronto goth kids. Watching the two girls in front of me look away in horror as this dude took his shirt off made me smile like a kid in a candy store. I just witnessed punk rock....and it was good.
The Horrors were ok....but not what I was expecting. They turned out to be more Smiths than Garage Rock. Some tunes were really good, but I found myself looking at my Fucked Up vinyl and wondering when I could go home and listen to it.

THRUSH HERMIT
I mean really this is no shock. Everyone has a band that reminds them of high school, and this is that band for me. Got into em after Tony and Ned bought their Steve Albini produced Great Pacific Ocean cassette after seeing them for 4 bucks at the Volcano. That was in grade 7. My love for them never died down, right till their end. Sweet Homewrecker was the best thing that came out in 97. The same year we saw Local Rabbits, Super Friendz and Thrush Hermit play the Korova Cafe in Kitchener, a venue the size of a garage.
I miss Thrush. I am happy to see that Joel is getting so much attention and recognition, but I gotta be hoenst and say its sad he didnt get it while being in Thrush Hermit. A FAR superior band and musical output.
Long live Thrush.

Check out this really old, but really awesome video of one of my fave Judas tunes
MORNING!
MORNING!
A nice montage of soccer fakers. The one at 1:33 is my personal fave.
Friday night was pretty fun and laid back. Hung out at Dave/Dan/Kates where we drank and played Euchre till about 4:30am. Somehow managed to wake up at 8ish, and made it to the parents house in one piece where I fixed the fridge (dont ask...not interesting.)
A couple hours later we found ourselves at Shakies getting food and pints before the Booze Bus left for Toronto. Yost drove all the way from Pittsburgh as a surprise and met us there. Unreal.
Needless to say we had a fuckin blast.

Another rock attack from Teds Wrecking Yard last night. I guess they played Pavement all night, cuz Eddie sent me a voice note of Rattled By The Rush. Could Teds be the worlds best bar? I think so!
The Illuminati.
They may only have on full length, and 2 EPs, but god damn this band pumped me up. Back in the Fanshawe College (or as it has become to be known, Funshawe Cottage) days, we saw these guy at Call the Office at what seems like on a weekly bases. This band more than any other on the list we have seen the most I think. Well over 30 times. Wish they were still around.

Kittens
Dont let the name fool ya, this band is heavy as fuck. Just imagine The Melvins and The Jesus Lizard put together, and you have one of my fave bands of all time. Bazooka and the Hustler is probably on my top 10 albums of all time. So incredible.

The Headstones.
Fuckin Headstones. Dangerous rock n roll. Hugh Dillion is probably on my Top 5 frontmen of all time. He could pump me up, and terrify me all at the same time. One time at a Guelph show Hugh hocked the worlds biggest loogie straight in the air. I have never seen such hang time in my life, cuz what felt like 20 seconds later, that spit landed right on the top of my head. I threw my arms up in the air in glee as if Hugh picked me out of the hundreds there. I was about 20 feet from the stage mind you. God I hope they come back.

Holy fuck this is hilarious
Here we go with numbers 10 through 5.
Number 10:The Hardship Post.
Another Murderecords alumni, until they moved on to the mighty Sub Pop. Saw these guys at the Edgefest festival back in the summer of 94 or 95. The drummer just quit that day but they went on anyway with one of the most awesome, hilarious, and weirdiest shows ever. I just got their album Somebody Spoke on vinyl this week. Only 7 bucks new from subpop.com. GET ON IT!!
It would seem their video for MY ONLY AIM is not on youtube...balls!
Number 9: Local Rabbits
Yet ANOTHER Murderecords band. Can you tell I am obsessed? The Rabbits' first album is probably my fave, mainly because its the one that got me into them. Saw them play the Korova Cafe in downtown Kitchener back in grade 9 or 10. Paid 5 bucks to see the Rabbits, Super Friendz and Thrush Hermit. One of the best shows ever. I still have the cassette I bought from this show.
Number 8: Sloan
Seems fitting that the owners of Murderecords be on this list. There was a time, probably back in grade 8, when Sloan was to me my faveorite band, save for FNM who will always be my number one. I do like pretty much everything they put out, except for the last album which I never really got into, but everything up until One Chord to Another is fuckin gold. Check out this video from that album in which they recreate a scene from Easy Rider.
Number 7: Danko Jones
LOVE LOVE LOVE my Danko. When it comes to this list I have probably seem Danko the most, except for maybe the band in the number 3 slot. Awesome live shows, and always a drunkin blast.
Number 6: C'mon
Actually now that I think about it I think Cmon is the band i have seem the most times live. They are always a blast to see live. Seen them so many times that we have a life time membership on the guest list. Its probably due to all the shots of Jager we buy them.
NOT CLOSE ENOUGH (The Bonus Video):
Inbreds - Any Sense of Time
I really really love this album, but I never got into anything after this so I didn't see it fitting that they crack the top 15. Incredible tune tho.

So here is my list for my top 15 all time fave bands from Canada. Some of the greatest bands in the world. Most of which come from the mid 90's and Murderecords era. If you are wondering where Rusty and Erics Trip and Mystery Machine and 5440 etc are, they would be in the top 20. Ill probably feel guilty for omitting several bands and I am sure there will be an "honourable mention" posting in the future.
The order changes from time to time, but here we go.
Number 15:
Transistor Sound and Lighting Co. These guys only put out one album and its a good one. They had somewhat of a hit with "Anyways, Mayonaise" which got a lot of airplay on Much Music back when they played videos.
Number 14:
Change of Heart. Legendary Canadian band. Ian Blurtons first band before forming Blurtonia and C'mon. Blurtonia was my first introduction to Sir Ian Blurton, and it was before a Guided By Voices show no less. Seeing two of my favorite front men in one night. This is the only half decent video I could find. Its from a one off reunion show they did at the Horseshoe Tavern. God bless Ian Blurton. (listen to Little Kingdoms at 3 minutes in. Fuckin rockin.)
Number 13:
Burdocks. Awesome band from Halifax. These guys are no longer together but half the band went onto form Dog Day which is a pretty wicked band, but not as good as Burdocks. These guys filled in my mid 90s void in the two-thousands, sounding very much like they could have been on Murderecords back in the day. Really catchy pop tunes, but raw and heavy at times too.
BONUS DOG DAY VIDEO
Number 12:
GOAT HORN! A kick ass metal band from Toronto. Much like almost everyone on this list, they too are no longer together, but when I think back about the best times in college, seeing Goat Horn at Call the Office is damn near top of the list. You cant stop Goat Horn you'll just meet your demise.
Number 11:
The Super Friendz The first of the Murderecords family on the list. Their first album is so killer, and takes me back to grade 8 every single time I listen to it. Everything after this album is pretty OK, but their first cannot be topped.
Stay tuned for the next installment.
BONUS NON-LISTED VIDEO.
Ladyhawk! Check out their last album. So fuckin good.

We left for Sarahs cottage on Friday right after work. Highlights of the weekend.
-Even though we drove there 3 times now we still managed to get lost. We drove past Durham for a good 40km before we realized we fucked up. We were rocking out too much to The Offsprings Smash album.
-About 8 of us went for a walk down the hill at 430am with a couple of road rockets. Awesome walk, and an incredible night/moon that night/morning.
-Saw a mouse by the fireplace, but people could barely move to do anything about it.
-Woke up on the floor at about 9:30...just 4 hours after getting in from the walk.
-Around 8 that night, we tried to get the party going so a massive game of Flip Cup took place. Someone puked at 8:30.
-Had a wicked dance party in the kitchen with a full light show.
-No one really knows what happened between this dance party, and morning.
-Woke up again in the living room, feet elevated and resting on the front window. This was a love seat. Oh, and there was a free bed upstairs....I am beyond sore today.
My mid afternoon wall usually hits me around 2:30...thankfully Entombed came on my iTunes and woke me right up.
