A pretty laid back weekend, and I am still sick. I hit up the Chilli Con Carnival with Tony and Trevor on Saturday afternoon, but was beyond full by the 4th shot of chilli. Taco Farm was my fave, but I was too full to try the Dana Short, which everyone raved about and ultimately won the competition.
Hung out with Laura. Hugged my Hesher. Bought some tunes from Orange Monkey, as well as a new coffee mug. Love it.
Sunday was super nice outside so I took a long walk to Central Market to get some chicken to BBQ for a week of lunches.
I also took a bunch of footage from inside the cemetery just outside of Central, with the intention of creating a 70s Italian giallo credit sequence. More on that later.
After doing some video work for Alfonso, he was nice enough to send me a copy of the brand new blu ray of Pieces. I really wanted to get this, but with a price tag of 50 bucks on the Amazons, and the Canadian shipping prices where they are, I gave up on the idea. So this is a nice treat.
Classick film.
Even though I am not a big fan of the double exposure look that is taking over poster art these days, I thought it would be a good thing to learn. I cranked this one out, and I gotta say, its pretty fun. You can keep playing with it until you find a really cool look.
I don't want to say I hate the double exposure look, its actually quite cool. Its just that it is starting to become overused.
Below are the three images I used to create this poster.
I have rotated some CDs in and out of The Brid. I threw in these two bad ass albums, fronted by two of my favourite ladies of rock.
I used to despise The Distillers, but this album grew on me huge and is so fucking good. The Menace really grew on me as well over the last 5 years, so much so that I think I like it more than the self titled Elastica album.
Crank both!
Treephones came over yesterday cuz he needed album art done for a new digital signal. We went through a bunch of films and documentaries on my hard drive looking for a cool grainy screenshot to work with. We ended up finding a couple of cool shots from the BBC documentary ATOMIC (which Mogwai did the soundtrack for), and we came up with this. We cut it up in such a way that was clearly inspired by the album art of the Robert Pollards and the Fugazis.
I created a channel on my Vimeo page which showcases my animated film logos. Click HERE to check it out, or watch the clips below!

I have been taking slow motion footage over the course of the month with my iPhone 5s. I wanted to see what its like to edit using these types of files, so I used Hesher as my subject. The greatest kitty in the world.

I have been working on this 90s music video mixed tape for well over two years now, and I am trying to finish it now so I can finally delete that folder. Basically its a 3 hour long mix on a VHS tape of some of my favourite music videos that I have saved over the years. Sadly there are some where I could not find a half decent version online and could not include it (I am looking at you Yo La Tengos!).
Anyhoo, I just started working on the tape cover, but I am only happy with the back at this point. I took a bunch of random screenshots from different videos and will see what I can come up with. I am really happy with how the silhouette of Kathleen Hanna looks on the back art here.
UPDATE: Here is the current front cover.
