The new Purple Mountains is really great (the name not so much), so naturally I am deep in a Silver Jews vortex. Starlite Walker and The Natural Bridge will be in heavy rotation today. I remember getting into Pavement back in High School, and ended up buying this CD just because of the photo on the back, and the fact that it was in the Pavement section. This CD got played to death back in the day, so much so that looking at the disc itself right now, I need to buy a replacement copy.
I scored the new Purple Mountains album after seeing Lou Barlow play Sonic Boom. Stuck with the CD as I can no longer in good conscious pay 34 bucks for an LP anymore. So far its really really good though, so I may have to resort to buying one.
Tomorrow, the 24th, iTunes will be putting out the new documentary on Death. I have been looking forward to this movie for a couple months now, and it looks amazing.
A couple of years ago I went to Orange Monkey and Vince convinced me that I needed to listen to this album. I was looking for something "new" so I bought it after he played me the first song. I am so glad I did, because this album is bad ass.
On a side note, this album was unreleased for 30 years, until Drag City (Pavement, Silver Jews) put it out. I was sold right there.
I was feeling pretty sick and shitty Saturday, but I still wanted to hit up Encore in the morning and try to get that Nirvana Incesticide vinyl that was released for black friday. No dice! Sold out! Balls! I did end up buying the new Silver Jews and King Tuff albums.
I helped Ned pick up a treadmill and bring it from the store to his upstairs spare room. This took way longer than expected. Those damn hydraulics really fucked with us. After that I went home and hit the couch hard. I tried to get the energy to go to Kevin's bday shindig but I couldn't do it. So I made a pizza instead.
I got my Early Times album in the mail. I am pretty stoked. I still need to buy the vinyl, which rumor has it comes with a poster of the ARIZONA RECORD cover, which is probably on my top 10 album covers ever, thanks to the mighty Steve Keene.

HEY NOW!!!!!! Look at this! It looks like Drag City is releasing a "new" Silver Jews CD/Vinyl/Cassette (I will take one of each please!). They have taken the long out of print ARIZONA RECORD and DIME MAP OF THE REEF records and released them as one package. This is pretty damn great, considering I was thinking of biting the bullet and spending a lot of money on each of those albums.
Here is a sample tune, which I have loved for years. There is even a wicked Pavemement version of this song which can be found on the Slanted and Enchanted reissue.
My only beef you ask? I wish they used the cover of the ARIZONA RECORD instead of the DIME MAP... one. I love my Steve Keene art. Who knows though, I am sure this art will be represented as well.
I got a sweet deal on frames for all those sweet ass Gig Posters Axl gave me. Laura also got her Pavement poster framed. Serpentine Pad is looking sweet!
