I broke my self exile from Discogs.com and bought this Jicks 7". The B-Side is their amazing cover of The Wipers classic "Alien Boy." I have owned this single on CD since I bought it at Encore when it first came out in 2001. A big reason I wanted this 7", outside of being a Malkmus/Pavement fanatic, is because this is one of my all time favourite album covers. I am thinking about framing it.
After seeing Malkjicks last week, this week has been nothing but Pavement and Jicks. I went through my Pavement singles and EP collection this morning to see what I am missing. I think I am going to start hitting Discogs.com every pay day and get one more Pave/Jicks single to add to the collection.

Below is my visual checklist of the singles that I still need to get. Keep in mind I already bought all of these singles back in high school, mostly during lunch breaks when I would visit my beloved Encore Records.
One of my favourite moments from this past Saturdays trip to see The Jicks was when Ned, Gary and I had a drink at 3am while everyone else slept, and talking about how awesome Malkmus is. Gary asked at one point "What other band's has Joanna [Bolme] been in??"
"Quasi" I said.
He looked kinda stunned, and then Ned yelled out "DUDE YOU ARE WEARING A QUASI T SHIRT!"
Classic Gary. Smoked your shit.
Today I hit Beat Goes On and grabbed a couple of their albums for a low low cost. None of the albums with Joanna though.

We had our usual "whats your fave Malk" discussion over drinks at the hotel before the concert Saturday. I kept pushing how incredible the Dark Wave EP is. Three songs that appear on here are some of my all time favourite Malkmus tunes, with Old Jerry cracking my top 5 Jicks tunes.
My conclusion with this is that Dark Wave is the second greatest EP ever made, right behind Watery Domestic by Pavement. I managed to get a 10" copy from Discogs a couple years back, but I do not see it pop up too often on there. If you see it, get it!
We had a HUGE group of people that hit Toronto Saturday night to see my beloved Malkmus and his Jicks. It was such an amazing show, and my love for Malk has somehow doubled. Great times.

I treated myself to some tunes this lunch hour at Orange Monkey. I picked up Wipers which I had been planing on doing for a good year or so now, as well as Mission of Burma. I went for the 15 buck low price Matador release than the 33 buck reissue. Fuck that noise. When I got home I had a package from Matador waiting. I picked it up and the 7" bonus Malkmus disc slipped right out and into the snow. That bummed me out, but I cleaned it and it plays well.
I did the old pre order of the vinyl from Matador as it comes with a bonus 7", but I should be hitting Encore today to get the CD. I fucking love this album already, which I guess shouldn't be a shock.
UPDATE: I just picked up the CD from Encore. The inside art looks like Pollard made it. Still no package from Matador at the Serpentine Pad.
