Pulled out one of my favourite tapes from the collection. This has a bunch of shows that aired on Much Music in the days that followed Kurts death. A lot of interviews, videos, and viewer calls discussing Nirvana and Kurt. Sweet tape to have.
I found these two VHS gems from a Discogs dude from Kingston. They just arrived in the mail, and I am stoked to throw these in the next time Treephones visits.
Last night Laura and I hit up the Depot and I bought some Espresso wood stain and some semi-gloss sealer. I did a quick stain test at lunch and I gotta say, it looks pretty bad ass. I am going to try a second coat when I get home to see how much darker it gets. I might just settle for one coat as it looks rather nice as it is.
This past Friday night, Jim came over to our place for some pre show drinks. What show? A kick ass Nirvana cover band! Two dudes from Romeo Sex Fighter have this awesome band, and what made this awesome band even better, was paying 30 bucks to drink unlimited booze at the Brick Brewery. There was also pizza!
The turn out wasn't as good as I would have hoped for such a deal of a ticket, but our little group had a fucking blast singing/screaming along to every song, including Milk It, and danced around.
We tried to keep it cheap this weekend so Jeremy came over each night of this weekend, and we made some good grub, like flank steaks on Saturday, and beef brisket on Sunday. We drank to Kurt, and cranked tunes.
Tony, Eddie and I got into a conversation about what our favourite year for tunes was. I have always personally loved 1994 as some of my favourite albums and bands were putting out releases around that time. It helped that I was 12 years old, and everything I heard was blowing my mind at the time. Some of the classic albums that were put out that year came from bands like Nirvana, Pavement, Guided By Voices, Sebadoh, The Jesus Lizard, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains, Silver Jews, Nine Inch Nails, Beck, Beastie Boys, Change of Heart, Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Folk Implosion, Hole, Green Day, Killjoys, Oasis, Offspring, Thrush Hermit, Weezer, Ween, Veruca Salt, etc.
Tony came up with the idea of listening to nothing but albums and songs from 1994 all weekend, and I am game. I woke up and threw on Crooked Rain, because I cannot think of a better song to open up a marathon of music from 1994 than with Silence Kit.
I made a pile of tunes that will be spinning at the Serpentine Pad all weekend.
I just took a stroll to Future Shop and picked up the two disc set of In Utero (I plan on getting the vinyl at Encore or Orange Monkey) for a cool 22 bucks. This album was a life changer, up there with Brighten the Corners and Angel Dust. I was obsessed with this album back in grade 8, and have loved it ever since. Top 5, to this day. This anniversary edition, I hope, is pretty cool. I am excited to crank the new Steve Albini mix in my car, give it the real test.
The only problem now, is do I really need 4 versions of one album on my iPod?
