My Top Five Movies of 2013

Here is my top 5 favourite movies of 2013...should you care....in no order.

I have to say, that not a lot blew me away this year. There was a couple of good flicks and documentaries, but there has been a whole lot of forgettable stinkers.  Below are some of the movies that I really loved, and that I feel I would re-watch.

DRINKING BUDDIES -  This movie is somewhat hard to get into at first as its mostly improv, and its basically people who work at a small time brewery.  A subtle Clerks type love triangle is the back bone of this movie and I found it really interesting.  The first viewing I didn't know if I liked it.  The second viewing I knew it was one of my favourite movies of the year.

GRAVITY -  I saw this at the 3D IMAX screen with Jim and it was probably one of the greatest theatre experiences of my life, and is in good company with Jurassic Park, Terminator 2, and True Lies.  I didn't expect anything from this flick, but holy hell is it intense.  I could hardly breathe the entire time.  Also, I was blown away by the 3D in this movie.  This is good because I usually HATE 3D movies.

THIS IS THE END -  By far the funniest movie of the year.  A movie you can watch over and over and laugh harder every time.  Best scene you ask?  Franco and McBride fighting over the porno mag.

THE WOLF OF WALL ST. - I just saw this two days ago, and its still sinking in.  Its three hours long, but its Martin Scorsese so it feels like 45 minutes.  The quaalude scene alone is one of the best scenes of the whole year.  Instant classic.  Scorsese is still the master.

THE PLACE BEYOND THE PINES - I am not even sure if this counts for 2013 as it was made in 2012, but the wide release was in 2013, and that is also the year when I saw it, so in my books it counts.  Its really great, and to top it off Mike Patton did the score.
